The new EU Innovation Platform: A game-changer for the European startup landscape

Launched at the European Innovation Council (EIC) Summit on 3 June, the EU Innovation Platform is the new single access point supporting researchers in turning research into real-world impact. Developed by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, it is designed to support innovators and startups across Europe while also allowing them to meet the right partners, and connect with relevant services, events, and opportunities.

Developed in the context of the EU Startup and Scaleup Strategy, which aims to streamline existing EU innovation support services and digital tools, the EU Innovation Platform also contributes to the broader ambition of creating a more connected European innovation ecosystem. It brings resources together in one place through a more streamlined and user-friendly approach. 

By registering on the platform, researchers benefit from personalised experiences and can be linked with tailored EU services, including Booster, as well as funding opportunities, business acceleration support, or market deployment resources to help bring their innovations to market.

When registering, researchers benefit from an intelligent recommendation engine based on their project needs, sector, geographical location, and maturity level.
Among the services available through the EU Innovation Platform is Booster, an initiative of the European Commission designed to help EU-funded projects maximise the impact of their research and innovation results. Through three complementary services, Booster supports researchers throughout their innovation journey by strengthening the dissemination, exploitation, and market uptake of their project outcomes. These services are provided free of charge and include:  

• Dissemination Support: helping projects promote their results to the right audiences through tailored dissemination strategies and implementation support.
• Go-to-Market Support: assisting beneficiaries in developing an exploitation strategy, refining their unique value proposition, preparing a business plan, and identifying market opportunities.
• Add-on Services: providing additional tailored support to enhance further the dissemination and exploitation impact of research and innovation projects.

For the time being, the EU Innovation Platform is aimed at EU-funded innovators who have benefited from EU support and want to bring their innovations to market, create jobs, and ultimately contribute to strengthening the EU’s competitiveness. In the coming months, the Platform will also open to EU innovators, business advisory services, investors, and corporates.
